After some more looking, I see that FreeNX is just the server.  There
are binary packages for a number of linux distros.  No Mac or Windows.

The client is still freely available from NoMachine, and is available
for Win, Linux, Mac, and Solaris.

So, I guess that doesn't help your scenario, since your 'server" would
be Windows.
