Apple didn't. :-P

No, seriously, actually, save for its implementations of virtual  
desktops, I don't think there is anything Apple has pilfered in that  
sense. Mac OS X's UNIXy-ness comes inherent with it actually being  
certified UNIX with a long UNIX heritage via NeXT. (Somewhat less well  
known, and not directly related, but Apple also had another certified  
UNIX OS known as A/UX back in the 1990's -- why they didn't use that  
to replace the aging Classic Mac OS rather than struggling for years  
is a mystery to me.)
