Taylor Swift Thoughts

By Jason Kettinger | Oct 14, 2026 at 4:34 PM

My Nephew Was Going Off To College. Naturally, I Made Him A Playlist

By Jason Kettinger | Nov 05, 2025 at 1:36 PM

It reflects me as much as him. But isn’t family truly the shared experience of knowing and enjoying one another? He likes Gracie Abrams, so I put “That’s So True” on the list, because I like it, too. She’s like a Jewish Taylor Swift; even to say it like that feels like a massive compliment. And I truly hope no one has lingering bitterness toward director J.J. Abrams; Gracie is his daughter.

By Zippy the Wonder Snail | May 09, 2025 at 10:30 AM

Why I Don’t Make Swift Endorsements

By Timothy R. Butler | Sep 18, 2024 at 11:00 PM

Unless you live under a rock, you know that the second most anticipated endorsement of the presidential election finally happened: Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris. Don’t hold your breath for the most anticipated: I won’t be making an endorsement. (And maybe you shouldn’t either.)

Tim and Jason talk more baseball, why everyone who uses social media should care about “the Fediverse” (especially in light of X’s move toward X-rated content), Taylor Swift’s latest album and the Rich Young Ruler from Luke 18:18-25.

Donald Swift

By Timothy R. Butler | Jan 31, 2024 at 11:14 PM

This week, I saw a meme that gave me a moment of clarity. Donald Trump and Taylor Swift have an awful lot in common. Call me fearless — the last sentence could lead to nearly all of the Internet hating me — but the comparison is worth entertaining to consider our political moment.

Look What Politics Makes Christians Do

By Timothy R. Butler | Sep 27, 2023 at 8:58 PM

Opening up X this week, I noted that the present beverage brewing tempests were the Internet meltdown over Taylor Swift’s new love interest and the honoring of an alleged Nazi in the Canadian parliament during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit. The invisible thread binding them was the Culture Warriors claiming to fight for Jesus who made these the cause célèbre.

Has "Big Worship" Ruined Church Music?

By Timothy R. Butler | Apr 12, 2023 at 10:33 PM

Ah, the week after Easter, that season when we critique the music we’ve just been singing. My attention was caught when the New York Times religion reporter tweeted out a link to Bob Smietana’s piece published this week bemoaning the homogenous nature of the present worship experience and how many churches did the same music over Easter weekend (and, by extension, every weekend).
